Competition track and new Art work

It's been a busy couple of days, I went round to Glenn's yesterday and had a great remix session. I had never done one of these before and found it great fun. Glenn wanted to enter a competition remixing Love Island by Fatboy Slim. The details of which are here http://www.junodownload.com/remix_fatboyslim/
It was great just putting our own style on a classic track, we've kind of found our formula of writing now and we are producing a lot of stuff. I've also spent the whole day coming up with the art work for our new song EMO COASTER, This proved more difficult than I thought, with three attempts to get the title to look write, but I'm happy with the final result. Thought I would go for a more simplistic image and what shows emotions more than eyes, especially, I think in black and white. But how to lay out the cover, I had to do some research first and then go back to the drawing board to come out with the final result, anyway enough of my ramblings, here it is.

I wanted to show the Gothic style of the music in the title, but with a futuristic twist, it seemed to be a very hard thing to marry together and I'm still not sure I've pulled it off, but I really like the emotions in the eye.

New songs, lots of new songs

What a busy day. Did some writing with Glenn today and he's been a very busy boy, we got all the parts down for a new track and Glenn had already written two songs. At this rate we will have more than an albums worth. nice work Glenn. we may have also discovered a way of playing live to a crowd without all the hassle that goes around touring, we found this website http://www.stageit.com/  we just have to find out. Technically, how we can do it, but it looks exciting. Finally, we have also uploaded our new song called Emo coaster. Which is probably our most atmospheric track to date. I have no idea what was on our minds when we wrote it, but it does seem to work. Well go take a listen, see what you think.https://www.reverbnation.com/mgblast Also you can now download Suppose you Suddenly Heard from the same site for a limited period, so go and check that out too.

Photo's I've done for a friends Band.

Put some Promo Photo's up on Facebook today for a mates Band called Master Charger. Who are an excellent band, by the way, go and check them out at https://www.reverbnation.com/mastercharger
But anyway, they have had a line up change and they wanted me to relaunch the band, so I started by updating their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/mastercharger which had been neglected for some time. They also wanted me to sort out some photo's I'd done for them a couple of months ago, while they had been practising in the studio. John the Vocalist and Guitarist came up with a crazy idea that he wanted the photo's to look like they had been taken through one of those spy holes in hotel doors, so I set about trying to recreate this and this is what I came up with.

New Art work for Suppose You Suddenly Heard

Well that's it I'm back from my very wet holiday, in Scotland. I'm back to get some MG stuff promoted. So here we go, I spent most last night, working in Photoshop to get the art work done for our brand-new song. I got the idea for it from the old 1940s public information posters. I think it also has a little bit of 1950s sci-fi about it too. I quite like the concept of that little voice in your ear actually having a body and trying to get out, hence the finger poking out of the ear. Well I suppose you could come up with your own ideas, as to what the picture means, I just have a weird imagination. So anyway, here's the artwork.

Strategies for promotion

What a minefield, so many social net works, where do you begin. Well why not just blitz them all and see what happens, that was my initial thoughts, but it is becoming time consuming but also a little addictive. But how to get real fans, that seems to be the Holy Grail of promo, not just getting other bands who want likes off you for their Facebook page, if anyone has the answer to this, please let me know, it may save me a lot of time. However I have discovered some real good bands out there, which I would have probably never listened too.  As I am probably one of the rare few that actually listen to a band before I decide whether to Fan them back or Like them or what ever. Anyway progress on the promo is slow but exciting and here's our next stage. We aim to release a track a week and this is our next track called Suppose You Suddenly Heard, a track inspired by looking through old 1950's public information films, which are excellent and funny go and have a look at a few http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/ Anyway here's the track http://www.myspace.com/mgblast39/music Leave a comment let us know what you think.

Been working on the artwork for our first song we released a couple of days ago, called Blast and here it is.

The artwork gets its look obviously from the title of the song, but also the fact that when we were writing it we were both going through rather bad times and this kind of sums up our attitude at the time. I also wanted to make a bold statement for our first song, which in my mind is all to do with conflict and human weaknesses.

Sample band press kits
I was messing around with Blender, which I'm still crap at using and came up with this logo totally by accident, decided I liked it, took it into Photoshop, messed with it a bit and as if by magic, I came up with the MG logo. I love a happy accident.

I was going to start blogging with some of my earlier work, but I've got so much stuff coming out for MG at the moment, that I thought I better show that first. So here's the first photo I've done to introduce myself and Glenn. It kind of represents what we might look like, to a computer, when we write our tunes. Scary really.

What's it all about.

So, what is this blog all about then.well originally it was all to do with promoting MG, a music project that a friend of mine decided to put together. However, I have also started to go on a little journey into the world of photography, videography and art. So I thought I would combine my experiences and combine my interests into one blog. So here we go. Well to start with I'm absolutely crap at drawing, so Photoshop was a complete revelation to me, I could now put what was in my imagination into reality, but it is been a great learning curve. Especially as at the same time I was learning about video editing and if this wasn't enough, myself and Glenn were discovering new ways to write music. So, so far it has been a very interesting journey. So why don't you come and join me.

New to Blogging and Music promotion

Well. this is all very new to me and not bad for someone who hates typing. Spent the whole day promoting MG on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MG.blast, Purevolume http://www.purevolume.com/MG30096 , ReverbNation http://www.reverbnation.com/mgblast and last but most certainly least Myspace http://www.myspace.com/mgblast39 . Which is a complete arse to set up, it took me two attempts and much swearing and a change of browser to actually Finally create a page, was it worth it? I hope so. I'll go into more detail about what this blog will be about tomorrow as it's kind of late now and I should be doing work, but as I've already said I hate typing and that's what work involves at the moment, well until tomorrow.

Cheers.
